Front page news

The funniest thing about living rural, is what makes the front page news. From Tractor DUIs to Raccoons up a pole, it's never let us down.

Isn't it pleasent to see a Pheasant?

The first ring-Necked Pheasant was first introduced to Nova Scotia in 1856. Not to hunt, but because of its beauty. I had never seen one of these odd looking birds until my wife came running from her office excited for me to look out the back window of our beach house. She thought it was a peacock.

Ahhh...thankful for lazy saturday mornings.

March moon from our back porch.

Downey woodpecker

Another daily occurrence in this animal kingdom, which we call home.

Backyard Majestic

Looked out our dinning room window to spot this... Two very enormous balded eagles sitting in the slough. We have since seen them circling the tree tops daily, perhaps a nest close by?

Blanket fort built for two.

...and three furry cat crashers!

Friday

Grackles found robbing our birdfeeder.

About a hundred or more of these beautiful iridescence birds (popularly referred to as a plague. Yikes!) were found robbing our bird feeders this morning. Although we may regret feeding them and forever have them looming like a cloud, it's always nice to spot some interesting newcomers.

Blue skys, good friends and happy dogs.

Who could ask for anything more!

Nothing say's Sunday better than Pancakes and whipcream.

Okay, so she's not a big fan of over indulging in the chocolate and whip cream... but you won't hear any complaints from this gal! :)

Six pounds soakin' wet.

Panda's first bath and not happy about it.

Newest addition to the family...

Cute little pooch named Panda. Aka Boston Terrier/Pug

Out...of...the...puddle...little one!

Spring is here and porcelain cows everywhere are up to their calves in mud.

Thirty-two candles.

Happy Birthday to my wonderful, amazingly lovely, funny and brilliant wife! (Chocolate birthday brownies is what she wanted...and Chocolate birthday brownies she shall receive.) xo

First grill out of the season.

Ice cold beer, even colder toes and the yumm-o smells of bbq in the air...

Copper's hawk misses mark, finds window.

That's right. Smashes right into our dinning room window. Looked out to the stunned feathered friend laying in the snow. Of course me being me, i shoved on my boots and grabbed a box while Christina calls the Department of wildlife. After describing the bird, it turns out to be a rear Copper's hawk and said to just set him outside to see if it will take flight. But not before it took flight over my head and onto the bathroom window!!! We managed to cup him/her back into the box and safely outside to flight.

Warm up butter cup!

She pulled this out from her bag to warm my cold toes, and steals my newfie heart.

Flying night squirrels.

Recently we've noticed these squirrels coming to our window late at night and found out they are actually rare flying night squirrels. I guess not rare as such, but rarely seen by humans. We have two that come at a time! Notice all that extra skin around its arms? Truly fascinating creatures!

Tuesday

Something Old, Something New...

The Make Up After A Snowball Fight.

Snowshoes? Out of Cardboard?!?

My thoughts exactly. Until my sweet and brilliant wife (with a touch of cabin fever might i add) decided she had to at least test the theory...and wallah!  A dandy quick fix to snowshoes. Okay, so they eventually became soggy and torn but the laughter kept me going for days!

Happy to find some green.

The sun's comin' up

It's early morning, birds are waking, an aroma of sweet, smooth espresso beans fill the kitchen air... and i take this photo.

Saturday

Valentine's surprise from momma Saulter.

They just don't get much sweeter than this!

Portrait of an Artist

Meet Irene Kassner, age 84. Born and raised on Prince Edward Island, nurse by trade, artist by heart. I count myself truly lucky to be working with the woman every day.

Afternoon Meeting With A Red Fox.

In the still of morning, on a work day, I think of her.

Promise of warmth.

Promise of kettle boiling.

Promise of sun
breaking over the sea
and slipping up the table legs.

Promise of blossom.
Promise of bloom.
Promise of opening
your lips--

a kiss.

(a poem by my wife, Christina Marie Saulter)

Saturday

The February moon

A crisp, still night. The wolf moon is rising over our backyard in Bay Fortune, Prince Edward Island.

Thursday

Morning greets with a cat.

Our sweet boy of the house, Ralph. He likes to make sure you're never lonely, even when your brushing your teeth.

Tuesday

Promise for spring...

even on a day when it's 30 below and painted.
Twelve hours of work, two hours of driving, one hour of snow shoveling - then this to make it all better... a Valentine from my wife.

Sunday

Local squirrel finds chocolate covered delicacy.

Our daily friend stops by to see what treats are on the menu... i don't know who smiled more, him or i to see the chocolate covered strawberry i put in his bowl.
